a little update on the blog
mostly technical changes
happy new year! i made a few changes to the blog!
you might have already noticed a few (unless you're reading this in the atom feed, in which case at this point you should go on the website). that is, the link bar has been updated again!
the first change is that there's now a "now" page, inspired by nownownow.com, though i dunno if i'll keep updating it. i can't say i'm interested in most of the now pages on that site, but it's an intersting concept, so i guess that's an experiment i'm running for now. basically, it's a page that lists stuff i'm up to right now. that's about it.
the second change is a "series" page, where series of posts will go. series are a bit like tags, i guess, but the difference is that series get their own index (already there but empty) and series get "previous in series" and "next in series" links in the footer, so you can easily navigate a series even if there's other posts in between. i've checked that this should work, but i don't have any series going yet. maybe i will, maybe i won't - the support is now in anyway.
the third change is that the feed is now in the link bar, and related to there being three qualitatively different kinds of link, they're separated into three groups. that link is just the atom feed. someone noted recently that you should make your feed easily discoverable, and i felt bad that it was only in the html header, so... there you go! there's the feed. you can click on it and your browser will likely download it an xml document so maybe don't do that, unless you like having random atom feeds in your downloads?
additionally, there's a few other changes that you won't see in the link bar. perhaps most interesting is that i've changed the footer a bit - it's now got some non-semantic containers in it. should look mostly the same, except the previous/next links are a bit closer to each other than before. this was part of series support, actually, since without such grouping the footer becomes hard to parse.
another non-link-bar-change that you likely will not notice but that's been
bugging me for a long time is that the outline of month and tag indices was
kinda fucked. well, now it's not, now the post headers in there have h3
elements in them instead of h2
, so the outline should be a bit better. if
that even matters for anything. but i care, so i changed it.
splitting off this section because... that thing above feels kinda heavy to read. if you just skimmed over it, that's fine, i promise. it's just some changes i made recently. if your rss reader doesn't support horizontal rules, uh, i'm sorry. there's one above this paragraph.
anywho
it's a new year, things are looking better on the "making blog posts" front. not much else to say right now, but i'll try to keep this up!
