hello!! it is knife month once again

(lmao. looks like i said i'd write a series on mypy, pytest and coverage literally a year ago and then never did. i still care about mypy so maybe i will one day. even the draft i have is dated 2024-06-xx...)

this one's a fairly short one, i just thought it appropriate to celebrate knife month in here. i am, slowly, and occasionall at the insistence of friends, making progress in doing things that i want to do. it is bright nearly all night. these are, hopefully, summery activities.

i kinda wish i had a setup for writing these posts that was less, hm, centralised. every once in a while i'm musing again about the extremely funny but silly idea of "adding a microblog to my blog", but it's the implementation part of that that's kind of frustrating to think about.

as a followup: i have actually made progress on my catalogue system, and barcodes! i managed to get a functional module placement algorithm going for datamatrix codes - though it's a python port fully based on an extant open source datamatrix library.

i also have made progress on the data model of that cataloguing system. most of it is just relational stuff - i'm making a link table for a many-to-many relation manually, as one does - but some of it is also like... something i'd be thinking about is "how do i add history to this thing" until i was introduced to the idea of "just make a table that records all the inserts and updates to another table, automatically, using triggers". so i did that! it's as-of-yet untested, but i see no reason it shouldn't work. so that's fun! i get history for "free", as long as i make a ui for it (and making a ui is, really, the pain point here i guess...)

no guitar playing since last time, either. this is kind of what i mean about "doing things i like". i just don't get around to them..

i hope to... have more exciting news next time, maybe. (what could she mean by that etc)

(oh yeah and gquuuuuux is pretty good maybe you should watch gquuuuuux)
