fucking email

in summary, uh, fucking email

uyyuuhh

okay so you know how sometimes email is trouble, right.

i have this personal email address that's forwarded from place a to place b for reasons that basically amount to "place a offers forwarding but not imap". fair enough, right? you just forward it to another email address you have and it's all good.

except, apparently, if you forward to a mailbox hosted by microsoft since the beginning of may. see, apparently some time in april microsoft announced that if you fail their vibe check, they require your mail to pass both SPF or DKIM or get put in spam. that's... unfortunate, and even more unfortunate is that i'm pretty sure they didn't tell end-users about this,

but what's the really unfortunate part is that, as far as i can tell, something like a week before the policy came to effect, they changed it from "put in spam" to "outright rejected". and, as i was not told about this, i was left wondering where my fucking emails were

the moral of this story is that the big email providers but especially microsoft are huge fans of making your email disappear into the fucking void and not telling you. sure, the senders got sent bounces - but those bounces look like backscatter since the mails came via the forwarding host! and even if they didn't they can't do anything about that - the senders have good SPF, it's the forwarding that's the problem.

so i've spent the last a bit figuring this shit out and moving to a Real email provider. the one i went with supports specifically configuring forwarding hosts, so one can hope that this time my emails will at least be delivered to me instead of being disappeared.

it's almost july...

EDIT: i forgor i fuckign forgor listen to BIRDBRAIN watch the BIRDBRAIN music video ok thanks
